Instructional Leadership Practices: Teachers Perceptions of a Rural School Principal in Fiji

The purpose of this study was to determine the extent which teachers perceive their principal be effectively exhibiting an instructional leadership role. Data for were collected from (N=24) in a rural secondary school Fiji using Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale (PIMRS) developed and advocated by Hallinger (1990). In addition Likert scale items, questionnaire included open-ended questions gain deeper insights into teachers’ ratings each item. Analyses data revealed that highest communicating goals students protecting time while supervision evaluation instruction lowest-rated items. lack professional preparation role dual as leader teacher, appears compromise both roles, may together explain scant attention paid These findings have implications principals’ workload turn practices, Ministry Education could re-visit avoid compromising either or teaching
